Potion Making!

a
I don’t know why I’ve called this post potion making. The little ones haven’t got a clue what potion making is! I suppose it because that’s what it was last time I did it with older children. This time with the younger children, it was more of a mixing, squeezing, stirring, combining activity, with no determined outcome other than to add, mix and observe the effects 🙂

b.1

I added whatever I could find in the cupboard to the table; yellow split peas, split peas, hair gel, oats, pasta, toothpaste, herbs and spices, flour etc.

b.2

I also provided lots of bowls and spoons for mixing and let the children explore.

Getting the hang of shaking the herbs and spices!

Squeezing, toothpaste is always really popular during this activity.

l

I added baking tins and cake cases to the table and the children set to work filling them.

m

n

I showed them how they could add water to make their mixture a bit easier to stir.

o

Infact the water containers proved to be particularly popular!

p

The children filled the different containers, working on their turn-taking skills.

q

The children couldn’t quite work the tap so I had to leave it running.  I turned it right down so we didn’t waste too much water, but it did mean the children had to wait patiently for their containers to fill.

r

Handwashing also proved to be popular.

s

So much so the children deliberately dipped their hands in the shaving foam so they could wash them!

Exploration fully underway!

The older children also enjoyed this activity after school…
