We used small plates, full fat milk, pippettes, cotton buds, washing-up liquid and concentrated food colouring, diluted slightly. I’ve tried this before with normal food colouring, the type available in supermarkets but the results aren’t very effective as the colours are too pale.
…and used the pipettes to add blobs of food colouring to the milk.
When they were happy with the food colouring they had added (they needed a bit of coaxing at first to move onto the next stage)….
They dipped the cotton buds in the washing-up liquid and watched the results! At first the food colouring moved to the edge
The children added more food colouring…..
….and then dipped their cotton buds into the milk again.
This time the results were more impressive.
Well the children were hooked and I admit this activity was a bit addictive!
The children alternated between adding more food colouring and dipping with the cotton buds.
Eventually the milk did turn a slushy brown colour, the children continued with new milk until that eventually ran out too!
