We had a bunch of Easter eggs laying around, but you could use any small plastic item you can fill. If you don’t have wash tape, you could use masking tape and color the finished maracas yourself.
First the kids half-filled the eggs with rice. They both loved this part and had fun adding different amounts of rice and listening to how the sounds would change.
Next, they placed the egg between two plastic spoons. Then they taped around the spoons to secure the egg.
We just wrapped the tape around the rest of the egg and down the spoon handles to cover. My five-year-old liked wrapping the maracas, although my three-year-old found it more challenging and had her brother help.
So easy, right? Now my little noisemakers have their own little noisemakers. And we have no mess to clean up! A win-win craft project, in my book.
