I needed an activity last week that would keep both the little ones entertained and the older children that are off on school holidays.  We haven’t had this out for a while, but bakery role-play is always popular!

We have rolls, pasties, pizza, sausage rolls, donuts, gingerbread men, biscuits, cookies and chocolate drops.

As this was a bakery, I also provided playdough and decorations for the children to make more cakes to sell.

Later in the week, I added cellophane and ribbon and the children set to work packaging their cakes.

There were lots of learning opportunities within this activity for the children.  Having the older children
This activity covered lots of areas of learning:
PSED: Turn-taking, sharing and working with others,
C&L: Talking to each other as they negotiated roles, acted out roles and instructed others what to do
PD: Developing small motors skills as they created their cakes to sell.
KUW: Developing an understanding of the real world of shopping, the purpose of money, queuing(!!)
L: Making price labels for their goods.
M:Counting cakes into baskets, using money,
CD:Participating in role-play / negotiating roles. Creating cakes to sell.
